Windhoek, 25 April 2013—The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Government of Japan today exchanged notes on a grant of US$1.5 million to support Ministry of Health and Social Services to strengthen maternal and child health services in Namibia.

The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Scheme (GGP), has provided funds amounting to 3,490,000 baht for the Project to Promote Integrated Farming and Product Processing for Income Generation in Phu Kradueng District, Loei Province. On completion of the project, the closing and handover ceremony was held on March 28, 2013, at the Bamboo furniture producing building, in Wangyang Village, Si Than Sub-District, Phu Kradueng District. The Embassy of Japan has today extended a grant of USD 864,153 (eight hundred and sixty-four thousand, one hundred fifty-three dollars) to an international NGO, The Halo Trust, for the implementation of “The Project for Mine Clearance in Mashonaland Central Province”.

The Ambassador of Japan to Zimbabwe, H.E. Mr Yonezo Fukuda, and Mr Tom Dibb, Programme Manager of The Halo Trust, signed the contract formalising the grant at the Embassy.

The Government of Japan decided to extend a grant of 183 million Japanese Yen (approximately US$ 2 million) to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan through the UNDP to support the electoral process in Pakistan.

Today, on March 13, 2013, Mr. Junya Matsuura, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs/ Representative of Japan to the PA, signed two grants contracts totaling $220,570, at the Representative Office of Japan to the PA in Ramallah, with the representatives of Beit Sahour Cooperative Society for Health Welfare and Salem Village Council. The projects are funded by the Government of Japan through the Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

Islamabad: 11th March 2013

The Government of Japan decided to extend a grant of 226 million Japanese Yen (approximately US$ 2.62 million) to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan through UNICEF to support the polio eradication program in Pakistan.

Roughly US$ 2 million out of the total grant will cover the procurement of approximately 13 million doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV), and the rest will meet the cost of social mobilization activities.

The Government of Japan has provided US$ 65,735 (approximately Rs. 8.2 million) grant aid for the food security and income generation project in Mannar District under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

The United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security decided to extend assistance totaling 321,000 US dollars (approximately 26 million yen) to a project entitled "Human Security in Africa: Assessment and Capacity Building to Promote Sustainable Peace and Development". This Fund was established through the initiative of the Government of Japan to promote human security in 1999.

The Government of Japan is extending financial contribution amounting to 345 million Japanese Yen (approximately US$ 4 million) through the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat)for the “Project for Rehabilitation of Community Infrastructure and Facilities in the Conflict Affected Areas in Northern Province”.
