Japan’s Emergency Assistance to the Republic of Kenya in Response to the Floods Disaster

  1. On Friday, May 10, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods worth 16 million yen (water purifying tablets, medicines, etc) to the Republic of Kenya, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request following serious damage from the floods.

  2. In Kenya, continuous heavy rain since the second week of March has caused floods in various parts of the country. The Kenya Red Cross reported, as of May 2, 74 people were dead and approximately 99,043 people were evacuated.

Japan to fund demining activities in Mukumbura

The Embassy of Japan has today extended a grant of USD 864,153 (eight hundred and sixty-four thousand, one hundred fifty-three dollars) to an international NGO, The Halo Trust, for the implementation of “The Project for Mine Clearance in Mashonaland Central Province”.

The Ambassador of Japan to Zimbabwe, H.E. Mr Yonezo Fukuda, and Mr Tom Dibb, Programme Manager of The Halo Trust, signed the contract formalising the grant at the Embassy.

Japan Extends Grassroots Assistance for Establishing an Endoscopy Unit at the Haidar Abdul Shafi Medical Center in Gaza City

A grant contract was signed between the Representative Office of Japan in Ramallah, and Red Crescent Society for Gaza Strip. Mr. Junya Matsuura, Ambassador for Palestinian Affairs / Representative of Japan to the Palestinian Authority and Mr. Younis Al-Jaro, Chairman of the Society signed the grant contract of the project for establishing an Endoscopy Unit at the Haidar Abdul Shafi Medical Center in Gaza City. The amount of the project funded by the Government of Japan through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, known as (GGP), is US$ 64,464.

Government of Japan Supports Electricity and Health Grassroots Projects

Japan provides US$2.62 million to protect Pakistani children against polio

Islamabad: 11th March 2013

The Government of Japan decided to extend a grant of 226 million Japanese Yen (approximately US$ 2.62 million) to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan through UNICEF to support the polio eradication program in Pakistan.

Roughly US$ 2 million out of the total grant will cover the procurement of approximately 13 million doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV), and the rest will meet the cost of social mobilization activities.

Japan Contributes 53.3 Million USD to Support Consolidation of Peace in South Sudan

The Government of Japan had decided to contribute a total of 53.3 million US dollars to the UN and international organizations to support consolidation of peace in South Sudan. This contribution comes from Japan’s supplementary budget for FY 2012 and is expected to respond to the emergency humanitarian needs especially for vulnerable people. While Japan’s contribution to African countries through this budget amounts to 525.4 million US dollars in total, more than 10 % of which is allocated to South Sudan.
