Access to high-quality ear medical services

The specific project objective is the prevention of deafness in the south of Malawi by creating adequate access to high-quality ear medical services, which are also affordable. It is envisaged that the project will improve the quality of life of affected persons and their families by combating deafness and avoidable hearing impairment, thus making a contribution to the reduction of poverty.

LEGAZPI CITY, April 16 (PIA) -- The German government has donated P1.6 million to install local flood early warning system in the town of Malinao and Tabaco City in Albay.

This following the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) Thursday last week by Albay Gov. Joey Salceda for the provincial government and Olaff Neussner for the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ),

The signing of the MOA also marked the start of implementation of the project.

The continuing financial crisis and euro zone turmoil has led several governments to tighten their budgets, which has had a direct impact on aid to poor countries. There is also a noticeable shift in aid away from the poorest countries and towards middle-income countries. However, on the basis of the DAC Survey on Donors’ Forward Spending Plans, a moderate recovery in aid levels is expected in 2013.

BERLIN, March 20, 2013 (AFP) - Germany said Wednesday it was prepared to take in another 5,000 Syrian refugees in the coming months in response to deteriorating conditions in the war-ravaged country.

Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich said Germany would grant asylum to 3,000 Syrians from June at the latest, followed by another 2,000 later this year in response to an "increasingly difficult" situation, bringing to about 13,000 the number of Syrian refugees taken in since the start of 2012.

"We want to take quick action," he told reporters.

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today received from the Permanent Observer of Germany to the organization, Peter Ammon, the commitment of the European country to contribute 500,000 Euros (approximately $650,000) to the Mission to Support the Peace Process in Colombia (MAPP-OAS).

Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement today on the occasion of the talks being held in Rome by the Group of Friends of the Syrian People:

“We are shocked by the images that reach us from Syria every day. In this emergency situation it is our duty to help our fellow man. The German Government is therefore making available an additional five million euros for humanitarian aid. We want to send a signal of solidarity and support to those who are suffering greatly in Syria and the neighbouring countries.”

Berlin – Mali's parliament has complied with the demands of the in­ter­na­tional community and adopted a roadmap for the country's return to democracy. In response, the German government will resume its de­vel­op­ment co­op­er­a­tion with the Malian government in gradual stages.

International donors have pledged over US$450 million to support an African force to fight Islamist militants in northern Mali. The pledges came at a donors conference held Tuesday (January 30th) in Addis Ababa to raise funds and logistics support for the African-led International Support Mission to Mali (AFISMA). Prior to the donors' conference, the AU's new chairperson, Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, announced the AU Assembly's pledge to help stabilize Mali.
